Daily Homily

God’s Active Word

Jesus prays

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 18TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

“Faith and truth are tied together. If we are faith-filled, we will be dedicated to seeking the truth. If we are truth-filled, we will seek to deepen our faith relationship with God” – Bob Kondrath. The most important thing that humanity needs to focus on the redeeming power of God is Truth.

In the first reading (Num 12: 1-13), God unleashed His anger on Miriam and Aaron for speaking against Moses. “Is it through Moses alone that the Lord speaks? Does He not speak through us also?” In questioning Moses’ authority, Miriam questioned God’s choice and blessings. This sinful approach caused God’s anger to befall Miriam inflicting skin malady on her. Jealousy breeds falsehood and pretence. Do you realize how destructive jealousy and falsehood can render your life? Contentment is a key element to freedom!
In the gospel (Matt 14: 22-36), Jesus invites Peter to experience the divine power by stepping out in faith walking towards Him on the stormy sea, yet Peter wavers in his faith and trust in divine power. The “Word” is power- “Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid”

Dear friends, the truth of the Good News we are called to bear will always either disturb our comfort or comfort us when we are disturbed. Being able to be repositioned by the truth of the Good News lies the access to deepening our faith relationship with God. How comfortable am I with the truth – to speak it and to hear it?
I pray as we journey in life today, we will hold on to Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Our focus on Jesus will set us free from the grip of fear, doubt and selfishness. With the Psalmist we pray: “Lord, keep me from the way of error and teach me your law. Do not take the word of truth from my mouth for I trust in your decrees (Ps 119: 29, 43). May we continue to seek the Truth and be filled with Faith as we live our lives. Have a Truth-full day!
